Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to have a specific issue to discuss to be able to attend therapy?

No. People come to counselling for many different reasons. Sometimes there may be a particular issue which clients would like to explore. In other cases, clients may be less able to identify a specific reason/event which has brought them into therapy but they may feel a general sense of unease or be experiencing a lack of confidence, control or fulfilment. Counselling is open to anybody who wants to explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-judgemental space.

  • What happens in the first session?

The initial consultation is an opportunity for us to meet and to see how we would work together. It gives you the opportunity to tell me a little bit more about where you are and what has brought you into counselling and also to ask any questions you may have about the counselling process. Together, we will explore what you would like to gain from this process and how best we could work together to achieve this.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This very much depends on each person and what he/she is bringing to the room. Some clients find that they are able to work through things in a shorter space of time but others like to have counselling on a more open-ended basis. We can discuss how you feel about this in your initial consultation and if you decide to continue with sessions, we will review how the counselling process is progressing at regular intervals.

  • What happens if I can't make a session?

If you are unable to attend an appointment, please let me know 48 hours in advance. Cancellations of sessions with less than 48 hours notice will incur the full fee.

  • Can you provide disabled access at your location?

In my Oakwood practice, yes. Whilst the counselling room is on the first floor of the building, there is a lift providing disability access.
